Spice it up!

Everyone should have a few (or a few million, if you are me) spices on hand at all times.  I have listed the simplest.  I will add and remove from this list as I so choose.  Why?  Because I do what I want.

For everyday:
  • Minced Garlic
    • Found in every grocery store in a jar.  I go for the mega jar because it's about a dollar more than the little guy and I go through that shit faster than little kids with cupcakes.
      (OR)
  • Garlic Powder
    • I said POWDER!  Garlic salt need not apply.  We're in a world where salt is major food group, don't fall prey to the salt!
  • Minced Onion
    • For all those times I somehow don't have either a yellow onion or a green onion, and I just seriously don't know how it happens.
      (OR)
  • Onion Powder
    • I'm not telling you to dump a 1/2 cup into anything, but sometimes you would be impressed with what a teaspoon or two can do for a dish!
  • Mild Chili Powder
    • Tacos.  'Nuff said.
  • Whole Peppercorns w/ a stylin' Pepper Mill
    • Having freshly milled pepper is just too good to continue on the path of pre-ground.
  • Salt
    • Let's face it, you need it!  Just consider your intake.  But if you made a box meal of something, hide the salt!
  • Cinnamon
    • Who doesn't like a good cinnamon and sugar slice of toast on occasion?
For pizazz:
  • Chipotle Chili Seasoning
    • I love, love, LOVE this stuff.  I should buy stock in it.  See my recipe for Chipotle Deep.
  • Brady Street Cheese Sprinkle
    • This stuff works for pizza, potatoes, sandwiches, just plain in your hand...
  • Mo Rub
    • I found this delcious concoction at the Iowa State Fair.  It's not all about fried food!  Well, they did put it as a dry rub on wings...
  • Cayenne
    • A little sweet heat.  Use sparingly if you are a wimp.
For intermediates:
  • Ground Ginger
    • I don't buy ginger by the root because I just do not use it enough to not waste the whole root.  Sure you can break off a piece to buy it, but why buy it in 1/4 inch pieces?
  • Celery Seed
    • Goes well in slaws and tuna and chicken salads.  [Recipes in waiting]
  • Celery Salt
    • My husband's uncle introduced me to celery salt on wings.  I apparently love wings.  No, no, I LOVE wings.
  • Dill
    • Just trust me on this.
  • Ground Mustard
    • I randomly throw this in with my to-die-for chicken strips on occasion, on marinading steaks, and other bizarre places.  Definitely something worthwhile!
